Make your hardwood floor look like new with these quick tips.
How to clean Scuff Marks off your wood floors:
Rubber soled shoes and heels can do a lot of damage on polyurethaned wood flooring. Scuff marks mostly are just on top of a floor's finish and pretty easy to remove. A light mark can sometimes just be rubbed out with a sock or a clean tennis ball. The tennis ball technique can also be used on laminate floors. If these techniques did not work on the mark then you can apply a little baking soda to a damp cloth and gently rub the scuff untill its gone. Rinse using a clean section of the cloth and buff dry.
Cleaning the dull path areas of your wood floors:
You've got a buildup of dirt that needs a wet cleaning in order to remove a dull path right down the center of your hardwood floor.
Do not use a mop and bucket because they get wood floors to wet. Use a wood floor cleaning product — such as those by Bona, Minwax, Armstrong or Bruce — that's made to safely and easily clean urethane-finished wood. Use the cleaner lightly on a 3-foot-by-3-foot area of the floor. Use a dampened microfiber cloth over the area to pick up the dissolved dirt the let it dry. Repeat until the area is clean and rinsing the cloth or mop often.
What you should do is leave the broom and vacuum your floors once a week or so. You may think that sweeping is the way to cut down on grime, but vacuuming is works way better with less effort.
Removing tough stains and paint on your wood floors:
You have a big mess on your floor and other cleaning products used to clean it up will damage your wood floor's finish.
Things on your floor like tar and gum can be tough to get off your floor. To remove these marks safely place some ice cubes in a plastic bag. Then put the icebag on the substance so it hardens. Then with a thin flat object like a credit card or plastic spatula, gently scrape off the substance. In order to remove dried paint splatters, use a moistened cloth with a little rubbing alcohol, place this on the stain for a few seconds, and use your scraper tool.
After scrapping off the substance rub the area with the baking soda paste to remove any remaining bits; rinse and buff dry.
